Isabella studied Biochemistry at the Ruhr-University Bochum (B. Sc.) and Life Science (M. Sc.) at the University of Constance.
During her master studies, Isabella was granted an ERASMUS scholarship for student international mobility at the University of Glasgow. In parallel to the courses taken at the University of Glasgow, she also worked at the group of Dr. Glenn A. Burley at the University of Strathclyde.
In Constance, Isabella focused on courses on nucleic acid chemistry and metabolism, as well as protein expression, becoming enchanted by the concept of incorporating non-canonical amino acids into proteins.
Following her desire to gain a deeper insight into the field of genetic code expansion, Isabella conducted her Master’s thesis at the group of Prof. Dr. Nediljko Budisa at the Technical University of Berlin. After receiving her Master’s degree from the University of Constance, she stayed at the group of Prof. Dr. Nediljko Budisa as a Ph.D. candidate.
As part of the research training network “Fluorine as a Key Element ”, Isabella aspires to exploring the limits of fluorination in living organisms (e. g. E. coli). She strives to incorporate non-canonical amino acids in a global, proteome-wide manner, while she is especially interested in tryptophan and methionine analogs.
